THIS INFORMATION IS INTENDED FOR THOSE APPLYING FOR POSITIONS AS DOCTORS, DENTISTS, NURSES AND ENGINEERS ONLY.

Doctors

In order to practice in the UK, overseas doctors must register with the regulatory authority, the General Medical Council (GMC). UK Permits and Recruitment are able to offer a complete service to doctors wishing to practice in the UK, incorporating everything from filling out the necessary forms for the process to offering information on the time and dates of the required examinations. Please read on in order to find out more about the process of registering with the GMC.

Specialists

The deciding factor in the registration process is whether or not you have specialised.  Specialists need not complete any tests so long as they have successfully acquired their working visa through UK Permits and Recruitment.  Simply contact us for the service of GMC completion and guidance.  All you will be required to do is attend a brief interview with the GMC on arrival to the UK.  At this point we can then begin finding you a job, free of charge, through our recruitment service.

Non - specialists

If you are not yet a specialist, the road does not end here.  Simply complete the PLAB 1 test in India whilst we pursue your work visa application for the UK.  Once you have passed this test and we have secured your visa for you, you must attend the PLAB 2 test in the UK.  Here you will have a short interview with the GMC before you can begin practicing in the UK.  We can then pursue job interviews and eventually a job offer for you.  Take a look at our recruitment pages for more information.

So what do we offer our doctors?

  • We will give you a head start in the application process - whilst we are dealing with your Tier 1 General Visa application we can also be processing your application to the GMC. As a result, by the time you arrive in the UK, your progression to becoming a doctor will have already begun and hence you will be closer to achieving your aspirations. Similarly, if you inform us that you would like us to start looking for recruitment on your behalf whilst you concentrate on passing the PLAB 1 and/or 2 tests or registering your identity with the GMC, this can also be done as part of the package entirely free of charge and in full utilisation of our established links with top institutions, both state and private.
  • An out of office hours, emergency contact number for your GMC trained personal advisor who will keep you informed on proceedings and provide you with guidance every step of the way.
  • UK Permits and Recruitment has liaised with the GMC to ensure that our method for processing your application is the most streamlined and efficient available and hence we are able to achieve prompt and successful results for every application we undertake.
  • A preferential application to accelerate the registration process
  • All the forms filled out and prepared by our specialist coupled with pre-interview advice and guidance to make sure you are fully prepared. Both money and time is unfortunately wasted by those who attempt to take on these complex procedures without expert guidance, and as a result, often fail in their application. Such a failure necessitates the payment of the entire application fee again and for the payment of our comparatively small fee, this unnecessary cost can be avoided. Moving to the UK involves various hurdles, and a successful GMC application is one which UK Permits and Recruitment can successfully manage.

Dentists

In order to practice in the UK, overseas dentists must register with the regulatory authority, the General Dental Council (GDC). UK Permits and Recruitment are able to offer a comprehensive service to dentists wishing to practice in the UK, involving everything from preparing all the necessary documents to offering information on the time, dates and syllabus content for the required examinations. Please read on in order to find out more about the process of registering with the GDC and what UK Permits and Recruitment can offer you.

Nationals from non-EU countries (other than a select few) are not eligible for automatic registration with the GDC. There are hence two options:

  • You may acquire a UK qualification (the Bachelor of Dental Surgery)
    OR
  • You will be required to pass the GDC's Overseas Registration Examination before being allowed to practice in the United Kingdom.

The GDC's Overseas Registration Exam (ORE) is held every few months in the UK and consists of two components - written and clinical. The ORE replaces the International Qualifying Examination (IQE) which is being progressively phased out. The examination is based on the UK dental curriculum and is essentially a test of general dental competence.

Summary of the process for the ORE

For your convenience and understanding we have outlined what our company can offer to ensure success in this process and have also divided up the ORE into 2 understandable stages:

Stage 1: Before receiving your application pack

Before completing the ORE application pack, new applicants will have to fulfil two criteria

  • Clinical experience
  • English language requirements

Clinical experience

The overseas dentist must have 1600 hours clinical experience where they have personally treated patients in the dental chair. The number of hours of this clinical experience will either be hours spent by the overseas dentist undertaking appropriate investigations and administering dental treatment either during the dental degree, post qualification or as a cumulative combination of the two.

Signed references from university Dental Deans (for pre-qualification experience) and/or employers (for post-qualification experience) will be required by the GDC in order to verify claims of clinical experience. Please note that the employers must also provide their registration number.

English language requirements

Dentists applying to sit the exam must demonstrate they have a good standard of English.  Candidates are required to submit a single, Academic IELTS Test Report Form before their application will be accepted.

The form must:

  • be no more than two years' old on receipt at the GDC
  • show a minimum overall band score of 7.0
  • show no score lower than 6.5 in any section
  • In sections where scores are given in whole numbers only, a minimum score of 7 is required.

For more information see www.ielts.org

If you do not meet one or both of these requirements then this must be remedied before an application pack is requested.

If you meet both of these criteria then please read on to see how we can help you.

Stage 2: The application process

If you fulfil the requirements for stage 1, UK Permits and Recruitment can be of assistance to you. We will obtain an official application pack for you and fill out all the relevant sections leaving only certain sections, such as those requiring a signature or individual detailed information (e.g. hours of clinical experience-requiring a referee), for you to finalise - a process for which we will provide an explanatory form explaining exactly how the form is to be completed. At this point we will send you our complete package to ensure the success of your application.

We will include with this package:

  • Step by step guide on what to do when the forms have been finalised, including everything from the address to which the forms are to be sent and what to do when you receive your reply from the GDC in order to speed up your successful registration.
  • General ORE guidance - including a breakdown of the costs incurred to sit the ORE examinations, what the examinations will involve in terms of content, where and when it will be possible to sit the examinations and how results are to be obtained on completion
  • Personal advice from previous successful customers of UK Permits and Recruitment  on how to go about meeting the ORE requirements to vastly improve your chances of success
  • A personal advisor assigned to your case who will issue you with an out of office, emergency contact number on which s/he will be available to deal with any queries you may have
  • Relevant ORE reading list
  • Equality monitoring questionnaire from the GDC
  • General information on employment opportunities for dentists in the UK, and discounted offers for our hugely successful recruitment service, all of which will be of use when you are successfully registered with the GDC

With our help, after you have successfully completed the ORE, you will then be a registered member of the GDC and able to practice as a dentist in the UK.

So what do we offer our dentists?

  • Dedicated and professional service - An Oxford University lawyer will be assigned to your application to ensure that all the required information and documentation is submitted correctly, on time and to the proper departments. We will also provide the comprehensive package mentioned above. Much money, time and effort is unfortunately wasted by those who attempt to take on these complex procedures alone, and as a result, often fail in their application. Moving to the UK involves many elements, and a successful GDC application is one concern which UK Permits and Recruitment will take expert care of.
  • We will give you a head start in the application process - whilst we are dealing with your Tier 1 General Visa application we can also be processing your application to the GDC. As a result, by the time you arrive in the UK, your progression to becoming a dentist will have already begun and hence you will be closer to achieving your goal. Similarly, if you inform us that you would like us to start looking for recruitment on your behalf whilst you concentrate on passing the ORE exam, this can also be done as part of the package entirely free of charge and in full utilisation of our established links with top employers.
  • Fastest and most affordable - UK Permits and Recruitment has liaised with the GDC to ensure that our method for processing your application is the most streamlined and efficient available and hence we are able to achieve prompt and successful results for every application we undertake.
Furthermore, we are able to offer this service at the most competitive rate in the market - our fee being a mere 7% of the entire application cost. Such a small fee is best spent on ensuring success first time around rather than contributing to paying the whole application charge again for a failed application. Please see our price list
